Mercian is proud to play its part in Greg James’ upcoming awesome challenge for Comic Relief. Greg, host of the Radio 1 breakfast show, will be cycling 1000km from Weymouth, on the south coast of England, to Edinburgh, on the east coast of Scotland, in 8 days – on a Mercian tandem. Starting in early March, Greg will be joined on the tandem by various characters and celebs along the way and will be stopping off in towns & villages on his soon-to-be-announced route, including a pitstop at our new location in Little Eaton.
We met with Greg on a cold morning in Regents Park in early January to take his measurements and give him a few tips on riding a tandem. Five weeks later the Comic Relief bike was delivered to Greg for his first spin with a co-rider. This is going to be an extremely tough challenge. We tip our hat to Greg and are honoured to donate a bike (along with our generous partners) for what we hope will turn into a huge fundraise.
Many thanks to Huub, Reynolds Technology, Madison Cycles, Shimano and Hopetech for providing kit, tubing and components.
