Calum O’Neill has been introduced to us through a friend of Mercian, Tao Geoghegan Hart. Tao has been supporting Calum for some time now, as they both hail from East London.
Calum won the British National para-cyclist championship in 2024, and Los Angeles 2028 is the big target. Calum, who suffers from Ataxia, hopes to be accepted on to the British Cycling Podium Programme at the end of 2025.
Needless to say there is little funding available to Calum and he currently rides a steel frame bike that has been converted to a trike using a kit.
Mercian will be sponsoring Calum with a bespoke Tricycle, which we are currently building. We look forward to working with Calum and Tao over the coming years, and wish Calum the best of luck in his quest to win a spot at the LA paralympics.
